Fun
Worry can rob you of good days, friendships, jobs, and more. Too many of our friends in Detroit are caught in cycles of worry about money, health, and crime in their neighborhoods. We hope that a part of our service work can lift some of that worry. But we also intend for Motown Mission to be a place that provides some moments of fun to practice pushing worry to the side from time to time.
Scripture: Matthew 6:25-33
We strive first for God’s kin-dom and enjoying the company of our neighbors and partners. And maybe, even if you’re feeling far from home, or nervous about being in a new city - having some fun in Detroit can give you a chance to practice letting worry drop by the wayside!
Questions:
What’s your most irrational worry? That thing that gives you nightmares, but when you wake up you think, “Well that was a stupid thing to have a nightmare about!”
Who is a friend who seems worried all the time? What ways have you been able to help them forget their worries for a while?
What worry have you seen in the lives of Detroiters this week?
What fun have you witnessed that has helped you or the people you’ve met here to leave their worry behind?
Take Action:
Share Fun - Talk as a group about one way you could share some fun with another team, a neighbor, or partner. Homemade thank you cards? Fun! $5 gift card to St. Arbuck’s? Awesome! Meet somebody on Belle Isle and treat them to a ride on the Big Slide? Aww yeah!
