Love, Shelter, and a Hand to Hold
Reach Out by the Four Tops offers the kind of energy the world needs these days. The lyrics say, if:
Your hope is gone
There is much confusion
The world around is crumbling down
then reach out to me and we’ll make it through together. In our connections we can catch a glimpse of the hope of God.
Amos 9 paints a beautiful picture of what that hope looks like:
I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel,
and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them;
they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine,
and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.
Here at Motown Mission we practice the art of reaching out to others, offering them a hand to hold, some help with restorative work, and a spirit of hope for the future of the communities around us.
As you prepare for a week of service in Detroit, know that you may be able to offer love and comfort to others. You may also need someone to care for you during your time here. That’s what it is all about: sharing in God’s beloved community together.
