Another Day of Livin’!
Rare Earth
A Unique Member of the Motown Records Family
Rare Earth’s hit song “I Just Want to Celebrate” was just one example of what made Berry Gordy have to sign them and create a subsidiary record label by the same name.
In the song, the Detroit-area band sings:
“I can't be bothered with sorrow
And I can't be bothered with hate, no, no
I'm using up the time but feeling fine, every day
That's why I'm telling you I just want to celebrate.”
Regardless of the world’s problems with money and people making harmful decisions, Rare Earth wanted to remind everyone that life is to be cherished, and celebrated together.
Read
In John 10 we get a glimpse of kind of life Jesus’ presence can bring. In the First Nations Version we read,
“I have come to give the good life, a life that overflows with beauty and harmony.”*
As fans of amazing Motown music that makes us get up and dance, we know what that overflow of beauty and harmony can sound like!
We see this kind of good life at work all around us in Detroit. Every time a work project is completed, a neighbor is helped, and maybe some ice cream is shared, WE JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE! Every time a Motown Mission volunteer stands up in the evening and shares the amazing ways they saw God that day, WE JUST WANT TO CELEBRATE.
So, this year’s theme will help us keep this party going. By organizing our summer of service around the expectation, implementation, and celebration of God’s “Flourishing of All Creation” we will be feeling fine, every day. And, we’re so glad to celebrate along with you and all our neighbors!
