Where You Go, I Will Go

Mountain Road with Two Travelers

“Where you go, I will go.” - Ruth 1:16

Another Summer season is here! School’s out, the van is all fueled up. We’re ready to hit the road! Let’s go!

Motown Mission celebrates all the amazing churches, youth groups, and volunteers who are ready to journey to far-off places and share in God’s love through service and community building. And we’re especially glad that your team is finding your way to Detroit to serve alongside neighbors here!

So this year we are focusing our theme on the story of folx who found a deep connection with each other as a way to make it through life, respond to God’s grace, and bless those around them. Their names are Ruth and Naomi.

Scripture: Ruth 1:16

This verse is a kind of commitment ceremony. Naomi’s husband and sons have died, and she is left in Moab with her daughters-in-law. As she turns to head back to Bethlehem, one daughter-in-law, Ruth, refuses to go back to her own mother. Instead she clings to Naomi and promises, “Where you go, I will go.”

Questions:

  1. Who is someone, other than an immediate family member, who has helped you through a tough time?

  2. What kind of commitments do we make to each other when we’re on a trip together? How do we help people by going with them on a journey?

  3. Where have you traveled where you felt deeply connected to the people you met there?

  4. How can God help you live out your commitment to your team, and the people of Detroit as you go on this Motown Mission together?

Take Action:

Here are some of Motown Mission’s partner organizations in the city. Jump onto their socials and give them some encouragement before you arrive. “Wherever you are, we’re coming to see you!” Let’s get a jump on committing to one another for the journey of building of God’s beloved community!
