Motown Mission Director


Motown Mission is seeking a new director.

The director will be thoroughly committed to Motown Mission’s inclusive and collaborative stance on short term mission and community development. All candidates should have proven leadership, ministry, and relationship management experience.

Motown Mission is committed to work against the traditional and often harmful narrative of short term mission. This is done through an understanding that our volunteer work is focused on a concept of “partnering alongside Detroiters.” Additionally, we strive to recognize that God’s presence alive and well and not only brought by volunteers, but that it is our privilege to partner alongside both God and neighbor in a collaborative effort to work toward shalom of community.

Specific requirements include:

  • Advanced degree

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation

  • Excellence in organizational management

  • Experience with short term mission, youth ministry, and young adult ministry

  • Pastoral care presence and strong emotional intelligence when working with youth, young adults, and adult volunteers

Technology requirements include:

  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, email, Google Drive)

  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting (currently using QuickBooks)

  • Working knowledge of website design, digital marketing, and social media

  • Experience in promotion and publicity

Summer Staff

Each year young adults come to Detroit to  develop leadership skills, engage in spiritual discernment, and live in community with one another, and create lifelong friendships.

Paid summer internship, spiritual discernment, on-site and off-site training, and intentional living.



Kitchen Coordinator & Cook

The Motown Mission Kitchen Coordinator / Cook serves as a primary connection and coordination of food and hospitality for volunteers. This staff person is part of the Motown Mission staff team. Critical areas of responsibility include meal planning, preparation of breakfasts and dinners, and ordering and purchasing food for service weeks.

Motown Mission is a site for the Global Mission Fellows program of the General Board of Global Ministries. You can apply for the program, and work anywhere around the country - including Motown Mission!
